44. LEWIS SAUL: Now Arriving (3:04)
These next two tracks from WA belong to the imaginary soundtrack (see this and this).
My friend, John, who did the cover art, came up with a beautiful little animation of this scene in the desert. Unfortunately, I only have the still image:
Here's what I imagined:
0:00 - 0:14 The last of a series of credits appears. The background is a massive tan desert.
0:14 - 0:44 The helicopter camera gently moves into the brownness of the desert and quickly zooms in on a rumpled, sleeping man, nestled in a sleeping bag by a still-smoking campfire. The little snare hits, woodblocks, and tambourine hits become very quick-cut shots of the local insect and reptilian population -- colorful lizards, scorpions, spiders, gila monsters, etc. dancing around the early morning desert sand -- this is all intercut with the man, now slowly waking up from his sleep...
0:44 - 0:45 Close-up on man's face. He is terrified of something. He looks around, paranoid...
0:46 - 1:13 Quick cutting. He packs quickly, looking around frantically...
1:14 - 1:39 The camera begins to pull back. The man begins to march, methodically, away from the campsite. As the camera pulls back we see where he had been camping -- at the base of a mountain which wasn't shown in any previous shot.
1:39 -- when the music stops, we again shift to an ECU of this guy -- he is definitely paranoid, sweating profusely and trying to see his adversaries in the heat of the desert mid-morning...he continues his trek, various angles on his discomfort (he hasn't had any coffee yet.....) until
2:26 -- the camera suddenly pulls WAY back, into the recesses of the mountains, to reveal the entire panorama. By
2:30 -- the camera has taken a POV from behind a group of people who are obviously shadowing our disheveled camper -- from higher up in the mountains -- a vantage point where they can see him but he can't see them...to
2:55 -- during this frenetic section -- quick-moving, fast-cutting shots of the man and his pursuers -- at some point the man, uttering a disgusted "shit," realizes he is being followed...he ducks in and out of the shadows of rock outcroppings...
2:55 - 2:57 -- quick shots of the man, his pursuers...
2:58 -- the man, thinking he has eluded them, ducks into a cave -- which we notice the shape of just as the last chord rings out.....there is some strange blue and purple light coming out of the cave....
